Volume 1, Number 2

Hello Neighbor!

It’s heartbreaking that so many people are uninterested and unaware of what’s happening in politics, especially local politics. It matters and it affects you personally. For instance, did you vote for the marijuana issue on the ballot in November? Did you understand what it was all about? Only 16 out of 114 counties in Missouri voted for the marijuana bill. How then did it pass and now become a part of our Missouri constitution? It’s because the big cities have too much influence. The popular vote is not always the best way, as our founders understood. The importance of the Electoral College is to protect small states from being bullied by big states. We need something like that in Missouri to protect small towns and rural areas from the bullies in Kansas City and St. Louis. The chances for corruption, fraud, and out-of-state influence in these 2 big cities are just too large for us to give them control over the state. (Just think of poor Illinois!)

Three bills have been submitted to the MO State House and Senate that will help with fairness in changing our constitution. They are asking that there be 2 parts to adding to the constitution: Over 50% of the popular vote and over 50% of each Missouri House district. Call your State Senator and Rep tor Jill Carter

SJR 33 by Senator Mike Moon

HJR 30 by Representative Ed Lewis

The MO Speaker of the House, Dean Plocher-R, is blocking HJR 30 from coming to the floor for a vote, even though it has moved out of committee. He is an establishment-Republican Representative from St. Louis, but I’m sure he would love to get a call from you!  573-751-1544. The Jackson County Republican Committee has approved and sent a resolution to him in favor of this bill.

KC City Council

The next 2 candidates are Democrats, but they are in districts that will likely only vote for Democrat and at least they are moderates.

  • Henry Rizzo, Dist 4 (a Truman/moderate Democrat; running against a far-left opponent)
  • Dan Tarwater, Dist 6 (a Truman/moderate Democrat; running against a far-left opponent)

If you know of Republican or conservative candidates running in your municipality, let us know about them and we will add them here.

City Council Reports

Independence City Council meeting, Jan 15, Many spoke out against the mayor proposing 4 council members would have to agree for an item to go on the agenda, also the 30 minute time limit for speakers. The consensus was that this would disenfranchise the Independence residents. (Report from Colleen Huff). Let Mayor Rory Rowland know your opinions.

KC City Council Votes to look into Reparations - A concerned citizen emailed us about the recent vote of the KC City Council to study reparations for slavery and segregation. Mayor Lucas will now appoint a 13-member commission to report back to the council about how this can be implemented. Councilwoman Melissa Robinson and the Mayor have been pushing for reparations. Councilwoman Heather Hall, dissenting from the majority, says that this policy hasn’t worked for other cities (as in San Fran-sicko) and it won’t work here.

Also, Mayor Lucas has decided to use $1 million of taxpayer money to pay for abortions across state lines. And the council is encouraging $7 million be spent on bike paths. “We think the money would be better spent on fixing potholes and picking up the trash,” says Mary Nestel, running for Council 6th district at large.

Kansas City desperately needs some conservatives elected to the City Council. See those running below.

If you could help the Jacomo GOP with any amount of donation, it will help us get conservative candidates elected. It takes money to run a campaign against a well-funded Democrat opponent. The Candidates below all need our help.

Do you have news from your city council or school board? We need citizen-journalists who will keep us informed so we can share with others. Let’s hold them accountable! —  editor@jacomonews.org

Why local politics is important.

We’ve had it backwards for a long time. People (and the news media) are usually focused on national politics, but consider this — your mayor, city council, sheriff, judge, and other local officials have more of a direct impact on your life than the person in the White House or in Congress. The pandemic showed us that good local officials can protect us from the abuses of the federal government. We pitied the poor folks in blue states and were thankful for our Republican government leaders in our state and municipalities who helped shield us from the excesses of the Left who LOVE to tell everybody what to do.

Jacomo News is here to let you know what’s really going on in local politics. Bookmark this page and check back for a new edition every month, and updates every 2 weeks.

We’re Watching the MO House & Senate for you!

  • MO Senate bill SB5 and House bill HB253 on school choice.  It will create open enrollment of public school students throughout Missouri, allowing students to enroll in nonresident public schools. Regardless of the scare tactics of the teachers’ unions, every child will still need an education at some school, and teachers will not lose their jobs, however, they may have to move to another school.  The House Bill includes only public schools, the Senate bill allows students to go to charter schools, also. It is not full school choice, but it is a step in the right direction. The MSTA (MO St. Teachers’ Association is afraid that “schools will have to compete with each other for students.” Sounds like a good idea to me!
  • Missouri House Bill HB-781 — Missouri House of Representative Elections Chairwoman Peggy McGaugh has brought forth House Bill 781 that would essentially remove the ability of Missouri’s Citizens/Voters from voluntarily choosing if they wish to be associated with a specific party affiliation. The Jackson County Republican Committee has send the House committee a resolution against this bill.  Last year Missouri passed the important Elections’ Integrity Bill known as HB 1878. This bill provides more security in the election process and more confidence for election integrity for Missouri’s Citizens/Voters. This bill allows for and facilitates the ability of individuals and political parties to connect with each other. But the passage of HB 781 repeals the right to voluntarily declare affiliation with a party through our voter registration records. One wonders what would be Rep. McGaugh’s motivation for this repeal of our privilege.

Jackson Country Republican Party Headquarters

1140 Hwy 40, Blue Springs, MO, 64015 (across from Blue Springs Bowl) — 816-875-9690

Our headquarters is a busy, active place with people dropping by every day and various meetings to engage our community. Stop by and visit us.

  • We have conservative/Republican products (t-shirts, hats, signs, etc) in our store for sale.

The Jackson County Republican committee is busy trying to get out our message of Freedom, Prosperity & Safety to local citizens. The Democrats will never give you these. Their policies are counter to prosperity, and are all about control, regulations, and power to the elite few, which also means little freedom for the little guy. They’ll never be able to give you safety because they love criminals more than the law-abiding citizens. Leftist gun laws and bail laws are making out cities more dangerous.

If you are not on the Jackson County Republican email list, you can help us keep in touch by going to jacomo.gop or emailing us at editor@jacomonews.org - and joining our list.

We NEED to hear from all right-leaning voters in order to make you aware of the news the media won’t cover.

Kansas City Star

Did you see the editorial in the Kansas City Star about last month’s Blue Township Newsletter? Same old leftist nonsense from that liberal rag. Lot of accusations and insinuations but no facts. Don’t waste your time. Thanks for the free advertising though, KC Star.

Why Socialism CANNOT Work

Your relatives, friends, neighbors or children might believe that Socialism is a good idea, but here is a great little story and example of why socialism CANNOT ever work. Why? because it takes away incentive. The Democrats and our schools are tying to indoctrinate our kids into “equal outcomes,” but this inevitably means low outcomes (poverty) for everyone. Be sure to watch this short but powerful video on Why Socialism Cannot Work and share it.

  • Biden digs in—no negotiations — We have a debt ceiling crisis ahead of us. The last 3 presidents have tripled the debt in our country: Obama and Biden from wildly overspending, and Trump from helping people through the pandemic. The Democrats want the debt ceiling raised again, but the Republicans want to cut spending. That’s a non-starter for Democrats. They are addicted to spending, but somewhere the debt is going to be too much for our economy to handle. What then?
