Jackson County, Missouri

    Truth in Reporting

Hello Neighbor!

Why does our Missouri legislature seem get so little accomplished? Maybe our legislative leadership needs to be changed? We hear from several other county party leaders that some of of our representatives need to be replaced by those who will listen to the people.

A Vetting Movement is on the rise all over Missouri. We want to know before we vote for primary candidates with an R beside their names that they will vote R, and not join with the Democrats who always vote as a unified block. We need reps who will protect us from the federal government’s overreach, and who will “nullify” the unconstitutional actions of the feds.

It’s concerning that we have a super majority of Republicans sent by the people to our state legislature every year, but they fail to get done what the people want. Though there were a few good bills passed there was …

  • No bill to make it harder to change the constitution, even though we KNOW the Democrats will add abortion and same-sex marriage to the ballot in 2024. And it will pass because St. Louis and Kansas City will make sure it passes. The rest of the state can forget what it wants.
  • No bill to allow full school choice, though we know  competition brings improvement. Haven’t we seen several other states passes school choice already, including Arkansas and Iowa? Why not Missouri? Republicans have a chance to take over education as our issue. We are for parents rights in education, and school choice.
  • No bill to protect people from food companies adding vaccines or bug protein to our food. The leaders didn’t even bring it to the floor for a vote.

They did finally allow people in Missouri to state their party affiliation on their voter registration, which will greatly help us connect with Republican voters, but Kansas also asks for an email address of their voters and Missouri does not.

Many of our legislators want to pass sports betting, even though they know that gambling is a vice and an addiction for some people. Why is that a priority? Don’t we have enough gambling opportunities in Missouri already? Do they think it will give the state more money to spend? But when you go against God’s commandments, you are putting your money into “pockets with holes” (Haggai 1-2). If the state doesn’t have enough money, the legislature should first “consider your ways” and repair the “holes” which destroy personal and state wealth. Disobeying God doesn’t bring us personal peace and prosperity. And allowing more gambling in the state will not bring the state prosperity. We need to elect representatives with good principles.

Independence School District asking for a levy change on the ballot Aug. 8

Is the Independence School Board going to lower our tax bill or raise it? That’s a good question. Get out your property tax bill and compare it to these numbers, then YOU decide.

‍     For 2022 the levy was 5.4371 per $100 of assessed value. (This is in 2 parts: operating costs 4.1190 plus debt service 1.3181.)

‍     On the ISD website they say they want to lower the levy for 2023 to 5.1171, but this is based on a “voluntary” reduction, as the ballot says, “the District expects to make a voluntary reduction to its debt service tax...resulting in the estimated overall tax levy of the District to be decreased by $0.10 per $100 of assessed valuation.” Or is it an 8¢ increase or a 32¢ decrease? That number has been floating all over the place the past few weeks! And does “expects” mean it will really happen, or not? Would they really put up this levy without costing us more money?

‍     My tax bill, however, says that the levy for 2023 is projected to be a total of 4.7962 (operating 3.45662 + debt 1.33). Look at your own tax bill. This looks like the tax levy is set to go way down next year. The wording of the ballot makes it looks like they are giving you money back, but even their lower number (5.1171) is still an increase from if they left it alone (4.7962). If your assessment is now higher, that will also affect what you pay in December. To figure how much you will pay in actual dollars, multiply the rate .054371 (last year’s rate) x the value of your assessment, such as $40,000. That should equal what you paid the past year. Then plug in their new rate. And do it again with the projected rate on your tax bill - .047962. See what the difference is. If you have a mortgage, it will be rolled into that, but your payment may change.

‍     In light of the huge property tax burden we now have, the people need tax relief. Is this really relief? You decide. Only a few people will vote in this special election Aug 8, so please do your own research and GO VOTE! You can make a difference.

What’s on YOUR ballot for Aug. 8?

Our government is full of crooks on both sides.

  • Obama came into office with $1.3 million, now is worth $70 million,
  • Biden is worth $10 million,
  • Chuck Schumer is worth $75 million,
  • Mitch McConnell is worth $30 million
  • Adam Schiff, $60 million
  • Liz Cheney, worth $7 million in 2017 and $44 million in 2020.

None of these people have done anything to make money. Where did they get it?

Action Alert!  URGENT NEED FOR HELP

Re: Englewood Arts Overlay Program, Independence, Missouri

Attention Western Independence Residents! The Englewood Arts District is usurping homeowners rights and are planning to destroy single-family neighborhoods by building high-rise apartments in the area. Residents may be forced our of their homes as developers buy up plots to build.

Big investors from out of town want to usurp the zoning laws of neighborhoods to do their version of “Up-Zoning.” They plan to urbanize Independence into mixed-use zoning, forcing people out of their homes to build apartment complexes, thus making everyone dependent on renting from them. The only benefit will be to these developers and more tax money to the city. It will destroy the single-family neighborhoods. If this goes through the people living there will have no say in what happens in their neighborhoods because the City Council will give this group the rights to make all the decisions.

Please attend a public hearing with the Independence Planing Commission, Aug 8 at 6:00 pm and at City Council, Sept 18 at 6:00 pm, both at Independence city Hall, Lower Level.

New Missouri State Law allows residents to list their political party preference. This is hugely important because it allows the parties to know who their supporters are. We need everyone to list their preference. Go to: Party Affiliation Form

fill in the blanks, print out the form with your changes, sign the form, and mail, fax or email it in.

  • Deliver it in person to the Election office at 215 N. Liberty, Independence, MO
  • Or, mail it to:  Jackson County Election Board, P.O. Box 296, Independence, MO 64051
  • Or, fax it to: 816-325-4642
  • Or, email it to: jceb@jcebmo.org

Right now the Jackson County Republican Committee is working on contacting everyone in the county and getting their party affiliation listed. If you help us, it will save us valuable volunteer time.

If you have not registered to vote or need to change your address, you will need this form —  Missouri Voter Registration Application  This is the voter registration form you can print out. Print 2-sided because the mailing address is on the back side.

New Missouri State Law bans texting while driving. Beginning Aug 23, a new MO law bans texting while driving, but allows hands-free calling. You won’t be stopped for it, but can be ticketed if stopped for something else.

New Missouri State Law Requires Car Dealerships to Collect Sales Tax on Car Sales.

This will help many people because 1) they won’t have to stand in line at the DMV, and 2) they can roll their tax bill into their car payments. Of course, maybe we should ask why the tax bill is so high for a car? Maybe the sales tax rate on cars should be lower because many people who are struggling to survive can’t come up with that much cash. Currently the state tax rate is 4.225 plus any added county or city tax. The average is 6.856, which is $2,056 for a $30,000 car. The state estimates that they are losing $40-$80 million dollars from people who can’t pay their tax, then can’t get a car license. But right now the computer systems aren’t in place to allow car dealerships to communicate with the DMV, so this may take a while before it actually happens.

Worried about Crypto-currency?

What happens if the government decides to do away with cash? If we lose the right to use cash, we lose our freedom because the government can then control or take away our money, just like Canada did after the truckers protest. The Bible warns us about this kind of system during the End Times in Rev. 13:17 (“And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name.”)

‍     If this concerns you, and you are looking for an option, here is a bank that supports patriots and promises not to use crypto-currency or close accounts because of a customer’s beliefs. It is Old Glory Bank in Oklahoma. It’s a real bank which used to be called First State Bank, but does online banking now. Independence resident, Leigh Phillips contacted Old Glory Bank and they said they would never go to crypto-currency “because a digital-only model could never honor our commitment to PSL – Privacy, Security, and Liberty. “

Animal Rights Activists have new troubles in Missouri if they interfere with the transportation of livestock.

A new law increases the punishment for a person who “stops, hinders, impedes, boards, or otherwise interferes with a motor vehicle transporting livestock; provokes or disturbs livestock confined in a motor vehicle; or puts a compound or substance on livestock that would affect the livestock’s marketability, affect animal or human health, or result in an unreasonable transportation delay.” These tactics cost farmers money and eventually raises prices of food. Thanks to our Legislature for getting this one over the line.
