 April 2024

  Volume 2, Number 2

Hello Neighbor!

We have an important election April 2

New Stadium update — Vote NO April 2

The teams are getting nervous about the strong opposition to a new stadium and are investing an extra $1 million in their VOTE YES campaign. They are putting heavy pressure on the county to approve the leases before the vote. If you don’t favor more taxes and don’t believe we need a new stadium right in the middle of downtown (with parking problems—traffic, crime and $68 to park), then tell your friends and family to get out and vote NO, April 2.  Please share this information with 10 people.

The new stadium(s) will cost $3 billion. It is NOT true that there will be “no new taxes” as their flyers say. They will repeal the old 3.8¢ tax that is about to expire and will start a NEW 3.8¢ tax that will last for 40 years. The money from the new Tax and other sources only covers $2 billion, so there will assuredly be NEW TAXES to cover the other $1 billion. Plus the county still owes $171 million from the last stadium renovation in 2006. Watch out for their scare tactics and threats! It’s hard to believe they would try this after we are still bleeding from Frank White’s property tax steal.

Independence Election, April 2

Vote for these 3 candidates below for IDS School board. All 3 are endorsed by the Missouri State Teachers Association. All of the opposing candidates for the school board are endorsed by a new DEI organization that was just founded in 2023 (Equity Education Partnership Action—MOEEP). One of the opposing candidates is the DEI director at Graceland University. Their goal is to bring DEI to the Independence School District. Is this what Independence parents want? Let your family and neighbors know what they are voting for.

Jackson County Property Tax Update

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey and the State Tax Commission are suing Jackson County over our property tax mess. This suit is asking a judge to stop tax collection and declare more tax increases as void. It even demands monetary damages for some homeowners. The suit contends that the assessments were unlawful because state law requires physical inspections and proper notice. The lawsuit goes to trial June 6th. Last week a county Judge rejected a motion by the county to dismiss the lawsuit and ordered the county to go into mediation with MO Attorney General and the State Tax Commotion for 60 days.

County Legislator Sean Smith will propose a negotiated settlement that rolls back to 2022 + 14.9% maximum, lower if someone got a lower value, credits taxpayers and forces the county to agree to increased oversight for future assessment. Thanks, Sean— the only one on our County Legislature who is for fighting for us! And now Sean is running against Emmanuel Cleaver for 5th District Congressman.

The are also multiple pieces of state legislation to set a cap on assessment or to require that our assessor be elected by the people instead of appointed by Frank White, County Administrator.

  • Missouri needs school choice! The Heritage Foundation’s Education Freedom Report Card shows Missouri below Arkansas, Mississippi and Iowa. • Voting machines can be manipulated and no one will ever know. We can only trust paper ballots and local hand counting. Then a recount is an actual thing. Here’s a great story from Georgia in a local race where the machines were way off ad they had a recount.  —

  • House Bill HB 1413 - Requires people to prove they are a citizen, which is then noted on their driver’s license. If they try to vote it will be easy for the election workers to see if they are really a citizen. This bill is moving along in the House and hopefully will be taken up by the Senate. Missouri needs this bill to pass!

The Jackson County Republican committee

is working hard to get our message out to the voters. The Democrats will NEVER be able to give you prosperity. Their policies, which are counter to prosperity, are all about control, regulations, and power to the elite few, which also means no freedom for you. They’ll never be able to give you safety because they love criminals more than law-abiding citizens.

Join our email list — If you are not on the Jackson County Republican email list, you can help us keep in touch by going to jacomo.gop or emailing us at editor@jacomonews.org - and join our list. We NEED to hear from all right-leaning voters in order to make you aware of the news that the media won’t cover. In fact, one of the best things you can do to help get conservative Republicans elected is to join an email list. This helps us get out the vote on election day.
