Local Elections Matter

by Donna Gordon

A three-year battle to return the focus of the Lee’s Summit R-7 school board to academics, fiscal accountability and student & teacher safety culminated in the election of conservative Bill Haley to the board on April 2. While his running mate Dan Blake came up a little short against a long-serving recently retired LS teacher, Bill’s election puts a 4-3 conservative majority on the R-7 Board of Education. Why does this matter? The school district is the linchpin of the community, and has been a long-standing point of pride for the residents. However, over time, divisive rhetoric, unnecessary shut-downs, and student conflicts are making headlines. These diversions are not only getting in the way of education, but create ripples throughout the community.

‍     How did Bill get elected? Pounding the pavement, grass roots support, and consistent effort to reach out and be available to listen to the concerns of students, teachers, parents and the community. Volunteers running all over town putting up signs. Teams meeting to knock doors every weekend. People reaching out to neighbors, friends and family reminding them of the election, and letting them know that Bill and Dan were the candidates who represented a focus on getting back to the basics in education.

‍     Similar outreach/grassroots efforts also helped conservatives get elected in Grain Valley, Independence, and on the Independence City Council. Volunteers are the lifeblood of every campaign, especially in smaller races, where elections may be won or lost by less than 100 votes. If you are seeking to make a difference and would like to consider running for a local office, it’s not too soon to reach out. John Butler’s Build our Bench movement is always looking for both candidates and volunteers to help keep the positive momentum rolling into 2025. When we all do a little, it can add up to a lot! Call the GOP Headquarters to volunteer - 816-875-9690.

Will KC become a Sanctuary City?

Mayor Lucas invites illegal immigrants to an open door in Kansas City, helping relieve Denver and Chicago. (Isn’t there aways money involved somewhere?) But then after severe backlash, including a threatened lawsuit from AG Andrew Bailey, he has recruited the TV news to help him walk back his offer. Now, the Mayor explains it like this — “If you’ve gone through that work permit, you’ve worked with the Department of Homeland Security, and you are lawfully present here in the United States, then you know what, we want to welcome you.”

We’ve dodged the bullet for right now, but there must be some nefarious reason Mayor Lucas wants this. They never give up, by the way!

You can CONTACT Mayor Lucas HERE and give him your opinion.

Sean Smith Fights for Jackson County Property Owners

by Toni Viens

Most all property owners in Jackson County know property assessments and associated property taxes have increased dramatically. One past and two present Jackson County Republican Committee members have continued the fight to get relief for property owners.

‍     Sean Smith is the 6th District Legislator for Jackson County. He has committed time and energy to trying to get this situation with the Jackson County assessment resolved. He has worked many hours, provided seminars and has been available for citizens to answer questions and get relief for Jackson County property owners placed under the horrendous situation of over taxation.

‍     Sean is currently running for Congress against Emmanuel Cleaver. Facebook page - Sean Smith for Congress

Property Tax Credit for Seniors over 62

The General Assembly is taking a look at a bill that authorizes a property tax credit for seniors over the age of 62. The bill that originally passed the assembly and signed into law by the governor last year unintentionally left out certain professions who do not receive Social Security such as teachers and firefighters.

‍      Legislator Sean Smith and Candidate Joe Nicola are hosting a Senior Property Tax Freeze Forum in Independence on Thursday, May 30 from 6pm to 8pm.

You must be 62 or over and qualify for Social Security

You must be the owner of your home in Jackson County

Your home cannot be worth over $550,000

‍     If you freeze your taxes now they will never increase, however they can decrease.

This does not affect your assessment only the amount of tax you will pay. You will see a credit on your bill. You must apply by Dec. 31, 2024 and then each following year by August 31.

See flyer below for more information.

Brazil’s Disaster — Does it Foreshadow Ours?

Poor Brazil. They had a good president and were moving away from the socialist disasters and corruption of the past — but then, they had a fraudulent election, helped by a biased Supreme Court and uninformed voters believing the lies of the Left. Now they are fast moving towards Communism. So sad! And the Biden administration helped the Left take over.

‍     Elon Musk is encouraging people in Brazil to get a VPN so they can still hear the news, but their dictator there is threatening to arrest Twitter/X employees in Brazil and fine anyone with a VPN. And here in America it seems certain that if the Democrat Leftists win another election, they will move quickly to take over permanently and take away our precious freedoms in the Bill of Rights. This election is crucial!

‍     What does this means for us? Blogger Russell Brand recently said, “No one is coming to save us.” Many look to Donald Trump to save us from these totalitarian dictators, but in truth, there is only so much he can do, and that is very little at the local level. If you want freedom, you must get involved, find out what the local issues are, what your candidates actually stand for, and VOTE. In August and November, we need volunteers to stand outside every polling place and hand out voter cards to help conservatives know who they should vote for. August elections will decide who runs on our Republican tickets. Is the “Republican” you are voting for really a conservative Republican who represents your values, who will represent you, or a RINO who represents his own interests? If you’d like to volunteer, call our GOP Headquarters 816-875-9690.

The Left really does hate Christianity… They want to control absolutely everything, every keystroke. They want to control everything because they're aspiring to deity. The reason they're aspiring to deity is because they don't recognize any god above them.” (Pastor Doug Wilson’s interview with Tucker Carlson)

Voters Need to Understand Basic Economics

Most people lack a basic understanding of economics. PragerU has a solution. Sign up for 15 free 5-minute videos on economics. Learn and share.

The Jackson County Republican committee is working hard to get our message out to the voters. The Democrats will NEVER be able to give you prosperity. Their policies, which are counter to prosperity, are all about control, regulations, and power to the elite few, which also means no freedom for you. They’ll never be able to give you safety because they love criminals more than law-abiding citizens.

Join our email list — If you are not on the Jackson County Republican email list, you can help us keep in touch by going to jacomo.gop or emailing us at editor@jacomonews.org - and join our list. We NEED to hear from all right-leaning voters in order to make you aware of the news that the media won’t cover. In fact, one of the best things you can do to help get conservative Republicans elected is to join an email list. This helps us get out the vote on election day.

Upcoming GOP Events

  • May 18 - Meet & Greet Lori Hook, candidate for State Treasurer, 2-4 pm, Perkins Restaurant, 3939 Bolger Rd, Independence

Protect our Right to Protect Ourselves.

Almost every week we hear of someone who is arrested and charged after protecting themselves, their family, or strangers around them from a dangerous criminal. This is why it’s important to have good prosecutors who will prosecute criminals not citizens protecting people.
